The Dead Eyes of London – 22.-24.11.2017, 8pm, THREE NIGHTS ONLY

The Provisional Players invite you to a very special show celebrating
their Thirtieth Anniversary:

a horror-comedy thriller homage to the weird and wonderful 60s
Edgar Wallace movies – The Dead Eyes of London.

It’s the Swinging London of the 1960s.
But this London is covered in permanent fog, and dead bodies keep piling up.

Can Inspector Holt and his assistant Sunny Harvey solve the murder spree
before the sinister master mind can achieve his (or her?) goal?

Do blind criminals have an advantage over police officers who cannot see?

Will the Provisional Players bring back Klaus Kinski for a final star
performance in a role that was just made for him?

Fast action, irreverent humour and a mysterious metal bath tub await you…

Three shows only: 22 .-24 .11.2017, 8PM
Brechtbau Theatre, Wilhelmstr. 50, Tübingen
Tickets for 6 EUR at provisionalplayers@gmail.com

30 years of Provisional Players Celebration Production – The Dead Eyes of London, an Edgar Wallace Hommage

As many of you may know, this year the Provisional Players celebrate their 30th anniversary.

To celebrate this occasion, we thought of a special play that can bring together as many former and current Provisional Players members on the Tübingen BrechtBauTheater stage as possible!

„But how?“, you ask. „I´m currently in Hannover/Berlin/Edinburgh/Tasmania/Bempflingen!“

First, the play:

We are currently working on adapting „The Dead Eyes of London“, a crime novel by Edgar Wallace, into a comedy stage version. It will be done in the style of the 1960s/1970s film adaptions that some of you may be familiar with and should be a blast for all involved.

„That’s all well and good“, you say, „but, still, HOW can you bring people from Hamburg/Munich/Moscow/The Cayman Islands/Albstadt together?“

Like this:

We´ll have a core ensemble of 5 to 6 people from the Tübingen area who’ll play the main characters who appear frequently in the play. Those people will be rehearsing according to the usual BrechtBau theater schedule.

And: We will have around 20 juicy minor roles and cameos for people who come from further away or can’t come to regular rehearsals. Those „external“ actors wouldn´t have to come to rehearsals until the very last days before performances.

PLUS: For those of you who can´t come at all, but would still like to participate: We’re trying to work in a few video and audio effects that you may be able to record in advance.

Here is the schedule (not including regular rehearsals for the main roles):

Saturday 18.11.: Rehearsal (it would be great if everyone could attend here)
Sunday, 19.11.: All-day rehearsal
Monday 20.11.: Technical runthrough at 18;00
Tuesday 21.11.: Dress rehearsal
Wednesday, 22.11.: Performance 1
Thursday, 23.11.: Performance 2
Friday, 24.11.: Performance 3
Saturday, 25.11.: Big anniversary bash in the late afternoon with dancing, reminiscing, drinks, good food and general merriment

Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus coming to the Brechtbau 24 – 28. July 2017

One survivor beckons and pleads to retell the events that happened the past few years.

His famulus, Wagner, aspiring to follow his master in his steps will soon learn that power always comes at a price and haughtiness is greatest before the fall.

In the end only one will remain to tell the tale while the horned legion of demons will feast upon the fallen.

19 – 21. July 2017: The Hound of the Baskervilles, a dramatic reading

Do not cross the moor in those dark hours when the powers of evil are exalted!

Something haunts the Dartmoor – a huge creature, luminous, ghastly, and spectral. People believe it to be the Hound of the Baskervilles, a hound from hell which is said to be the curse of the Baskerville family and the cause of the many sudden, bloody and mysterious deaths in their history.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson endeavour to solve the mystery of the hound and its connection with the recent mysterious death of Sir Charles Baskerville. Their case is a race against time since the diabolical force on the moor is already at the heels of its next victim…

On their 30th anniversary, the Provisional Players cordially invite you to a dramatic reading of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic novel. If you dare, travel to the desolate, gloomy moor with us and explore what might well be Sherlock Holmes’ most mysterious, dangerous and darkest case.

WHEN: 19. – 21. July 2017, 8pm (ONLY Wednesday to Friday!)
WHERE: Brechtbau Theater, Wilhelmstrasse 50, Tübingen
TICKETS: for 5 EUR at the door or at provisionalplayers@gmail.com

The Lost World is coming to the Brechtbau Theatre …

A mysterious silent movie reel that shows the shadow of a pterodactyl is all it takes to send Prof. Challenger – the formidable mind that sprung from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s pen – and his assistant Edward Malone on a wild-goose chase – make that a wild-dinosaur chase – to South America.

It’s a race not just against time but also against two inscrutable criminals that shy away from nothing – break ins, theft, robbery, attempted abductions – to sabotage Challenger’s expedition.

Will Challenger and Malone make it to South America nonetheless? Will they find dinosaurs and live to tell the tale? And will they uncover the true identity of the enigmatic  third participant of their journey who so conveniently appeared when Challenger voiced the need of a second assistant?

Come to the Brechtbau Theatre to witness how the Provisional Players turn Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic adventure into a mad-cap comedy and the theatre into _a land that time forgot_ …

Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit comes to the Brechtbau, 25-29. April 2016

In Blithe Spirit, Noel Coward’s comic
masterpiece, socialite and novelist
Charles Condomine invites the medium poster_mid
Madame Arcati for a seance to
gather material for his new book.

Little does he know that behind the air of mumbo
jumbo hides a very real spiritual talent.

And he doesn’t know either that his
late wife Elvira
has no desire to stay dead and lacks appreciation
for Charles’ new marriage and even less for his
new wife Ruth.

Come to the Brechtbau Theatre to see how
Charles Condomine tries to untangle this web of
love, envy, and jealousy from beyond the grave
in this latest production of the Provisional Players.

We’re going to band together and fight for what’s ours.
The underclass rising up, flexing their muscles. The
world is full of hatred and violence. And it’s our job,
our duty to stomp the living daylights out of it!
Be part of that! Come with us!

Meet the Altruists:

– an anorexic actress that makes narcissus look shy,
– a lonely social worker trying to find true love,
– an aggressive protestor in search of peace,
– a “political” lesbian who is really (REALLY!) into men,
– a gigolo living on the streets,
– and a corpse …

We need Sidney’s money. After all, firebombs don’t grow on trees.”
